Good Shepherd Lutheran School is a Christian – Christ centered school. It is dedicated to a quality education of God’s children and is concerned with all aspects of education, particularly Christian nurture. For this reason we feel that a religious philosophy should permeate all levels and facets of instruction. Specifically, GSLS is committed to the Christian heritage as grasped by the Lutheran Church. It is not a private school where religion is taught as an additional subject. Rather, GSLS provides a total Christian environment, which promotes the education of the hearts and souls, as well as the minds of its children. The additional strength of GSLS continues with a quality staff partnering with families to enhance the overall education of each child.

The main campus of Good Shepherd, located on the north side of Collinsville, consists of the church sanctuary which was dedicated in 1999 and the school which was completed in 2003. The two facilities are connected by an enclosed, windowed walkway. The church was established in 1959 and the school was established in 1984.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church sanctuary is a contemporary design which can accommodate 450 people on the main level
and an additional 50 people in the balcony. A large narthex provides a place for members to socialize before and after services.
School chapel services are held in the sanctuary every Thursday. School music programs and graduation ceremonies are also celebrated in the Sanctuary.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Day Care fosters the overall development of children ages 3 and 4 combining
activities directed by the teacher along with activities selected by the child. It is located in the lower level of the Early Childhood Complex and is open from 6:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool, located in the upper level of the Early Childhood Complex, strives to provide a quality Christian education for three and four year olds in a group setting. Three year old students meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. Four year old students attend on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Morning and afternoon sessions are offered for both ages.
The playground located at the Early Childhood Complex is furnished with age appropriate recreational
equipment which helps encourage children’s motor development. The large space is safely fenced.
This spacious entrance provides a welcoming presence for families. The secured area has a locked entrance
requiring visitors to buzz the main office prior to admittance. The parents of GSLS gather here before and after
school which allows time to develop relationships with others. Student projects and school sponsored programs
are also displayed in this area.
Located in the lower level of the building, these bright classrooms are designed to promote a nurturing
learning environment. They are equipped with computers, active boards, Apple TV and the students have
access to iPads for various learning activites.
Located on the main floor, the middle grade 4-6 classrooms offer a spacious area for learning. All classrooms
are equipped with modern technology including computers, active boards and Apple TV with iPads.
These classrooms are located on the main floor and offer the same technology as the other classrooms.
In addition, the junior high students utilize a 1 to 1 iPad learning process. This method enables each student
to have a school owned iPad for their personal use. The junior high students change classrooms and teachers
throughout the day.
The high-tech media center not only contains books for all levels but provides access to on-line article
searches and recommended web research sites. The center has eight computers for student use along
with an automated checkout system. Each class visits the library media center once a week.
The Science Lab, located on the main level, is utilized by the students. This large classroom allows for
hands-on learning which includes lessons on dissection as well as other science related experiments.
At Good Shepherd Lutheran School, we have integrated the best of modern learning tools with proven
traditional teaching. The lab consists of Mac computers which allow students to learn both Mac OS and Windows. The Computer Lab utilizes cutting edge technology to teach needed skills such as word processing,
presentation skills, safe Internet use, webpage design, problem solving and more. It prepares students for real-world applications.
Good Shepherd’s cafeteria, which was renovated in 2004, is located on the main level of the school. A hot
lunch and alternate option, along with milk, are provided to students daily. Students can bring a lunch but
every class eats in the cafeteria.
The lower level music room was designed especially for choir and full band rehearsals. Individual
practice rooms are also available. If parents chose not to purchase instruments, Good Shepherd
Lutheran School owns some instruments and also utilizes an outside company.
Students have a separate area away from their classrooms to work on art projects. The spacious
art room is located in the lower level of the school. Art class is regularly scheduled and projects
range from pencil drawings to pottery.
Students use the well-maintained gymnasium for school assemblies, PE classes and sporting events.
The regulation size gym has two adjoining locker rooms which are utilized by 5 – 8 grade students for PE
class and sport teams. The pull-out bleachers can accommodate up to 600 spectators. The school musical,
awards banquet and other large gatherings are also held here.
GSLS has two playgrounds to accommodate the needs of the students, allowing them to safely
play with supervision. The recreation areas sit on a spacious tract at the back of the facility which
includes space for baseball games, field days, PE classes and other outdoor activities.
