RECLINER TO RUNNER 5K GROUP TRAINING FOR BEGINNERS

COACHED BY JENIFER SCHALLER, RRCA CERTIFIED RUNNING COACH, OWNER OF RUNWELL running store in Edwardsville, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church member and former GSLS mom (her daughter graduated in 2010).

This is a 10 week program for beginners! People who have never ran before or who haven’t ran in a several years. We start out alternating running with walking. Over time, we decrease the walking, increase the running, and at the end of 10 weeks….you’re running 3.1 miles!

We meet as a group for our discussion and group training once a week. We discuss some topic related to running for about 20 minutes, we stretch together and train together as a group. The weekly meetings will be conducted in person.

After our weekly discussion and training, everyone receives a Weekly Training Schedule for the following week. This is your HOMEWORK! You will complete the workouts as scheduled, mark off that you completed it, and how it went. Jenifer will check in on you via email, and text messages. She will collect everyone’s Weekly Training Schedule and review for signs of impending injury, signs that the workouts are too easy or too difficult, and provide feedback. In some cases, we’ve had to back off the current schedule or advance some folks ahead!

MEET YOUR COACH – JENIFER SCHALLER
Jenifer is a RRCA certified running coach, owner of RunWell running store in Edwardsville, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church member and former GSLS mom (her daughter graduated in 2010). With over 25 years of running experience, Jenifer has completed 35 marathons, including Pike’s Peak Marathon and the Boston Marathon, with the goal of running a marathon in all 50 states. She competes in countless road and trail races at all distances (Ultra-marathon, marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K, etc.) every year. In 2012 she ran her first 50-Mile Ultra Marathon at Michigan North Country and placed third in her division! To celebrate her birthday in March 2017 Jenifer completed the Prairie Spirit Trail 100 Mile marathon in 24 hours, 35 minutes and 32 seconds.

Jenifer has trained many successful runners at all distances, from 2K to full marathon! Most of her runners go on to run farther, longer, stronger. If you have never tried running, or have tried and it didn’t work out for you, don’t give up! The Recliner to Runner program is designed for success. Many people who have tried running on their own, do too much, too fast. They run until something hurts, they’re miserable, and are turned off of running from that point on.

RunWell’s Recliner to Runner program starts off very slowly and builds up slowly. Once the fitness base is laid, we will begin to ramp up. Each week we will discuss running gear, stretching, nutrition, personal safety, proper form, injury prevention, and many other topics! Jenifer listens to her runners and provide the tools for success.

The 2017 Charger Challenge will help fund a MakerSpace/Collaboration Room.
